Here is a definition (from Reinvention Roadmap: Break the Rules to Get the Job You Want and Career You Deserve, page 255)
Frogs sit on lily pads in ponds, and brilliant people like you sit on lily pads in the talent marketplace A job, a temp assignment, and a consulting engagement are all lily pads. We don’t expect a lily pad to support us forever, but it’s a place to rest and check out the landscape around us.
We always have our eye on the other lily pads arrayed around us in the water. We send the moment when it’s time to jump to a new lily pad. That’s how we keep moving and stay above water in the new-millennium workplace.
How do lily pads figure in your career story? Have you sensed the moment when it was time to jump from one lily pad to another? Leave a comment!
