About Human Workplace
We started Human Workplace because the working world should be a lot more human than it is.

We believe your career belongs to you. You get to choose your path, question the rules that don't make sense, change direction, try something new and decide for yourself what success looks like.
Liz Ryan launched Human Workplace in 2007 to bring a human voice to the conversation about work. Today, more than 3 million people around the world are part of the Human Workplace community.
Through our stories, videos, art, courses and career help, we share practical ideas and encouragement for finding your path, growing your flame and building the life and career you deserve.
About Liz Ryan
Liz Ryan has been thinking about work โ and questioning the way we do it โ for most of her career.
She started out as an opera singer before stumbling into the business world and eventually becoming an HR leader. Along the way, she learned that most of the rules we take for granted at work aren't laws of nature. They're choices โ and we can make better ones.
Liz led HR for Recycled Paper Greetings as the company grew from $1 million to $250 million in annual sales, and later served as Senior Vice President of HR at U.S. Robotics as the company grew from $15 million to $3 billion.
She also co-founded the Boston technology startup Ucentric Systems, founded and ran WorldWIT, a global community for women in business and technology, and taught career strategy at the University of Colorado before launching Human Workplace in 2007.
Liz is the author of Reinvention Roadmap, Red-Blooded HR and Righteous Recruiting, and her writing, videos and ideas about work have reached millions of people around the world.
Long before all of that, Liz trained as an operatic soprano at the Manhattan School of Music. She earned her bachelor's degree from Loyola University and an MS in Communications from Northwestern University.
She still sings. She also writes, draws, gardens and makes art โ including the folk-art illustrations you'll find all over Human Workplace.
Liz and her husband have five children and live in New York's Hudson Valley.
